Every detail of the TK-1 has a purpose. Here you will find answers to the most common questions about its design, craftsmanship and use.
What makes the TK-1 different from other waiter’s knives?
The TK-1 was shaped by years of experience in hospitality and developed to solve the frustrations its creator Ricardo kept encountering with other waiter’s knives. From the pocket clip to the foil cutter, the one-step lever and the internal construction, every detail was rethought to create a tool that feels more precise, more refined and more dependable in use.
Why is the TK-1 3D-printed in titanium?
Titanium allowed the TK-1 to become both lighter and stronger. Earlier printed versions in stainless steel proved too weak, so the design moved to titanium for its strength, wear resistance and distinctive finish. The body and lever are 3D-printed in titanium, while the internal parts are redesigned and milled for a more exact fit.
Why does the TK-1 have a pocket clip?
The pocket clip was the starting point for the TK-1. It came from a simple observation in hospitality: the right tool should always be within reach. Inspired by the ease of carrying a pen, the clip makes the TK-1 natural to carry and ready to use.
What makes the foil cutter unique?
The foil cutter was specially developed to reduce wear and resist dulling over time. Its patented double-blade design distributes pressure across two cutting edges, while its curved profile follows the bottle neck for a more controlled and consistent cut. With correct use, it is designed to retain its sharpness over the long term.
How does the TK-1 evolve with use?
With use, the TK-1 becomes smoother and more precise in its action. As the internal components begin to work into one another, the mechanism feels more natural and more satisfying in the hand. Its foil cutter is also designed to retain its sharpness, allowing the knife to feel increasingly refined over time.
Why can the TK-1 feel firm at first?
Because each TK-1 is assembled with close tolerances, the mechanism may feel firmer at first. As the internal parts begin to settle into one another and lubrication works its way through the action, the movement becomes smoother and more natural with use.
Will every TK-1 look exactly the same?
No. Each TK-1 is assembled and finished by hand, so slight variations may occur from piece to piece or compared to photos and visuals. These small differences are part of the character of a product made in small batches with a strong focus on craftsmanship.
Where is the TK-1 made?
The TK-1 is assembled by hand in the Netherlands and produced in small batches. After printing, milling and sourcing, each piece goes through an intensive finishing process that includes tumbling, blasting, polishing, drilling and assembly by hand. It is a process built around precision, but also around craftsmanship.
Is the TK-1 suitable for everyday professional use?
Yes. The TK-1 was developed from real experience in hospitality and designed for one-handed use at the table. From the measured spiral and one-step lever to the shape of the body and the pocket clip, every element was considered with practical service in mind, while still offering the feel and presence of something exceptional.
Is the TK-1 a good gift for wine professionals or collectors?
Yes. With its small-batch production, hand assembly and refined design, the TK-1 makes a meaningful gift for wine professionals, collectors and those who value craftsmanship. It is not simply made to be owned, but to be appreciated and used over time.
